Travel Diary: Destination Sea Island, GA

Travel Diary: Destination Sea Island, GA

Next week, Morgan will head to Sea Island, Georgia to bring the exclusive Buru Atelier  experience to attendees of The Southern Coterie.

Typically, only held in our Arts District location in Los Angeles, we are very excited to offer this experience to a select group outside of LA. (Please email birdie@shopburu.com if you are interested in learning more about how our Atelier experiences work.)

Though it is technically "work travel", Morgan always finds a way to mix business and FUN! See below for her top Sea Island picks, travel tips and packing guide.

TRAVEL TIP:

While absolutely lovely, Sea Island is not the easiest place to fly.

If you're traveling from out of state and driving is not a reality, then there are a few different strategies. Morgan prefers landing in Jacksonville, Florida or Savannah, Georgia and driving an hour and a half.  Alternatively, if you want a shorter drive, you can fly into regional airport Brunswick Golden Isles, but flights are more limited.

Please keep in mind that Sea Island is a private island and can only be accessed if you're staying at the Cloister, visiting a home owner in the community or coming to the hotel for dinner.

WHERE TO STAY:

St. Simons, the neighboring town has some darling options, but The Cloister offers a level of nostalgia and tradition that is unparalleled in the area.

Set on five miles of private beach, The Cloister opened its doors in 1928. From horseback riding to formal bingo nights, this Southern resort offers more activities than most. With a level of elegance and formality, you'll feel as if you're stepping back in time.

With an onsite arcade, a bowling alley, a wildlife center, multiple swimming pools, kids camps and sports galore—there is literally fun for the entire family.

And speaking of family, if traveling with yours, we suggest staying in a one or two bedroom suite in the main building for easy proximity to ALL the fun. (A one bedroom can actually sleep 6 which is ideal for a family with small kiddos!)

WHERE TO EAT:

Tavola: A fine dining vibe with a family-friendly menu, this is a great on-property spot.

The Georgian Room: If you're looking for formal dining experience with adult vibes (you must be 10+ to dine here), the dress code suggests cocktail attire for women and sport coats for men. Added bonus: electronic devices must remain hidden so you'll actually engage with your dinner guests!

Sea Strike & Pub: Grab some bowling shoes and bring your appetite for typical pub fare for a fun, kid-friendly evening.

Wonderland: This classic ice cream parlor, with candy-lined walls does not disappoint.

WHAT TO PACK:

Though peak season is typically considered spring and summer, The Cloister is also magical in the cooler months and of course at the holidays.  For a trip in January, Morgan is filling her suitcase with a mix of transitional pieces, in fun colors that can be easily layered for temperatures swing from day to night.
