Meet Freshly Picked founder Susan Petersen! Mother of two, this working mom and entrepreneur was featured on ABC's Shark Tank for her baby moccasins. Petersen began making the shoes we adore so much in 2009 after becoming frustrated by the lack of well-made baby shoes in the market. Made with care, her moccasins are perfect for any little one's feet and are loved by many. Find out more about Susan Petersen and Freshly Picked below!

BR: What do you love most about being a mom?

SP: Being able to experience the world for the second time through the innocence of my children's eyes.

BR: What is the number one way in which motherhood has changed you?

SP: It has made me more giving.

BR: If you breast-fed your daughter, what wardrobe challenges did you face?

SP: I didn't ever want my stomach to hangout!

BR: What was your inspiration for Freshly Picked?

SP: When my son, Gus, was born, I couldn't find any soft soled shoes that I liked, so I tried my hand at making them! I went through a few design changes and eventually got to the moccasin we sell today.

BR: What is your day-to-day style at the Freshly Picked office?

SP: Bad ass business casual.

BR: What are your five must-haves from Shop BURU and why do they work in your mommy lifestyle?

SP:

1. Rebecca Minkoff Coco Top Button Down T-Shirt

2. Hutch Mint Drawstring Maxi Shirtdress

3. Walter Baker Jessica Jacket– Off-White Denim Jacket with Vegan Leather Sleeves

4. Sachin + Babi Alyssandra Sweat Pant

5. Mara Hoffman Vinyl Tote Bag

BR: What are your five favorite baby products? Why?

SP: Zarbees, Solly Baby, Peyunia Pickle Bottom, Little Hip Squeaks and Freshly Picked of course!

BR: How do you balance time with your family as the founder of such a fast growing company?

SP: Balance is a myth and I really don't think that it exists for working moms! My focus is on my choices and whether or not something that I am doing outside of work is taking me away from my family. I try really hard to say "no" more than I say "yes".

BR: We love how you cashed in old window frames from your brother's window installation company to start Freshly Picked. You're obviously very smart and savvy. But please tell us, what fashion item do you splurge on?

SP: Stance socks. I can't wear any other socks now– they're amazing!

BR: What is the one thing you wish you would have known before becoming a mom?

SP: For every time I ever thought, "my kids will never do that," my kids have done that.

Thank you so much, Susan Petersen!
